Gilboa Quarry

Since 1991, scuba divers from all over the Midwest, at a rate of nearly 7,000 a year, have come to this tiny Putnam County village to explore the Gilboa Stone Quarry. At 140 feet, co-owner Dan Diller likes to brag that the 14-acre lake is one of the deepest bodies of water in the United States.

Because of various sunken "treasures" there, five boats, a school bus, cars and trucks have been strategically placed on the bottom for exploration, the quarry is sometimes called a "Disneyland for divers."
